As reported by the Burlington County Times on May 21:
The Lenape Regional High School District accepted a $600,000 donation from the Marlton Recreation Council and the Evesham Celebration Foundation to install a synthetic turf field at Cherokee High School.
The Recreation Council provides organized sports programs for the township’s youth. The Celebration Foundation promotes community experiences throughout the township. Both are nonprofit organizations.
Lenape District Board of Education President William Bisignano said no district funds will be used to purchase or install the turf at the high school’s Foltz Stadium.

Teacher on Two Wheels
One man. One bicycle. Two years. Thousands of miles. Follow along as a teacher rides the earth in search of tailwinds, smooth roads, and students he can learn from.
Andrew Morgan (Class of 2000) is riding his bike and pulling his trailer from New Jersey to Argentina, then taking a freighter to South Africa, then riding to Egypt. You can follow his Blog to see what he is up to and where he has been. He is a teacher and stops at schools along the way. His blogs are interesting and well written, it is worth checking out. He has gear lists and stats on his trip. It's all pretty descriptive. Check it out, comment, sponsor him, tell your friends. It's a pretty cool trip.

Lenape District Alumni Ambassador Gathering
Save the Date! 3rd Annual Lenape District Alumni Gathering will be held Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the new Lenape High School cafeteria.
All alumni of Lenape, Shawnee, Cherokee and Seneca are invited.
Special recognition for District “Legacy Families” – those with 3 generations of students who attended any of our high schools.
NOTE: If you are a three-generation “legacy family” – or know of one – please contact us. A District legacy family is one with a student currently attending or recently graduated from any one of the four district high schools who has a parent and grandparent who also attended one of our district schools.
Other planned activities include:
- Meet, greet and reminisce with former classmates, teachers and staff members
- Interact with current student ambassadors to learn what’s “new" at your old High School
- Three-generation legacy family recognition
- Entertainment and Refreshments
Tickets or an RSVP are not required, but for planning purposes you can RSVP electronically.

A Message from Emily Capella, Superintendent:
On behalf of the board of education and administration, it is a privilege to, for the second consecutive year, share with you the good news that the majority of voters in the Lenape Regional High School District yesterday approved the 2009/2010 budget. We are particularly gratified by the continued support of all of the Alumni, Retiree, Parent and Recreation Council Ambassadors and for your unwavering commitment to our mission: to be a leader in progressive education by helping to develop physically and emotionally healthy students who excel in an ever-changing world…
As you know, last year’s approved budget was a breakthrough for the district after the failure of the previous six proposed budgets and cuts totaling $8.3 million. We were cautiously optimistic about receiving voter approval of the 2009/2010 proposed budget thanks in part to the momentum from last year’s vote combined with the district’s emphasis on year-round, open communication with our constituents.
The 2009/2010 budget results in a tax levy increase of less than one-half of one percent over the current year’s budget. Also, for the second consecutive year, there is a decrease in regional school taxes in five of the district’s eight communities. Most important, I’m happy to report that although we will not add new programs, the approved budget enables the district to maintain all existing programs and activities.
Community involvement in our schools is a hallmark of the Lenape Regional District. The district’s Ambassador Programs are one way for alumni, parents, district retirees and community members to get involved in the district through activities that meet their schedules and encourage them to serve as advocates for public education in general, and the Lenape District specifically. We owe you a debt of gratitude for your continued support and encourage you to stay involved in the years ahead.
If you have any questions or concerns about the approved budget, please do not hesitate to contact Business Administrator Jim Hager, 609-268-2000, ext. 5535 or me, 609-268-2000, ext. 5545.
Again, thank you!
